Well tomorrow it will be one year since the Israeli soldiers were kidnapped at the Lebanese border and Friday, Shira's birthday, will be one year since rockets starting exploding so close that we felt we had to go away for a while.
That's when Barak suggested we use Vox to keep in touch with everyone without having to write a group email or, worse yet, several different mails every day (he had sent me the invitation a bit earlier, but I hadn't had time to figure out what it was).
Even though I don't post as much as I might, I must say that I check my neighborhood almost every day and it has really changed the quality of my contact with people so far away (and even some pretty close by).
There are lots of specials on tv about the war - I must say I can do without most of that. I think we will watch Waking the Dead - one of those great British pathologist/crime detective shows - instead.
We have spent the whole year talking about what was wrong and what was right and, most important, what should happen now. But anyway, nobody is really listening.
One of the most annoying things was that today somebody from the commission that is investigating the whole decision making process and management of the war period said that they are really shocked that the prime minister didn't resign after their interim report, which was pretty damning. We are really having a leadership crisis here! They felt they had sent a very clear message the first time around (about 6 months ago, I think). I guess they will do better on their final report, in October I think.
One encouraging message was from the army, which announced that they do not expect a war this summer. Good thing, since Shira and here friends keeping coming up with exact dates that the next war will start. They even had a preliminary birthday party for her last week, just in case we will all be refugees in Tel Aviv - or further away - next week.
Here on planet earth, life just goes on pretty much as always. We don't really have time to contemplate which rumor to believe or which politician to hate most. We are fortunate to have lots of work, even too much, and we do our best to focus on what's most important (whatever that is).
